The 2008 Fall Limited Editions feature a gorgeous pairing of Mexican Koa and Hawaiian Koa, two of our most exotic and visually striking tone woods. The two share starring and supporting roles, as rich, lava-hued Koa bodies accented with a Hawaiian Koa mini-wedge and binding, and ripple-figured Koa bodies set off by a Koa mini-wedge and binding, each radiate intense aesthetic appeal. Our Fall LTDs also boast a special tone-enhancing twist: Adirondack spruce bracing, whose extra elasticity helps create a sweeter, more powerful and more balanced acoustic voice.

Sitka spruce is the top wood standard of the modern era. It’s used on 85-90 percent of the guitars that Taylor makes. Its dynamic range is very broad, allowing for everything from aggressive strumming and flat-picking to finger picking. Sitka spruce is Bob Taylor’s personal favourite for an all-around great guitar.
A tropical hardwood, Koa’s tone blends the midrange of mahogany with the top end of maple. Due to its density, a new Koa guitar tends to start out sounding a little bright and tight, somewhat like maple. But the more a Koa guitar is played, the more the sound opens up, expanding the midrange and rewarding the player with a richer, sweeter, more resonant tone. A common mistake is when a bright player buys a Koa guitar in part for its visual beauty, finds it to be too bright, and doesn’t play it enough to allow the wood to warm up.
Adirondack spruce is extremely sought after and has been used as the bracing material inside this guitar for strong and lightweight bracing allowing the top to resonate in a natural way.

Taylor Expression System
The Expression System incorporates three different magnetic sensors. Two strategically placed Dynamic Body Sensors™ affixed to the underside of the soundboard capture the complex nuances of the top's vibration, while a Dynamic String Sensor™ mounted beneath the fretboard extension registers string and neck vibration.
The preamp, developed with collaborative input from pro audio pioneer Mr. Rupert Neve, boosts the pickup signal cleanly, without the need for artificial EQ "coloration". The balanced, low-impedance signal the Expression System produces can run direct into a mixer or PA in most situations, and is free of distortion at almost any volume.
Three simple, unintrusive onboard control knobs preserve the aesthetic beauty of your Taylor, yet allow you to easily adjust the volume, bass, and treble to suit your personal preferences and performance environment. When set flat, the tone controls add no color and produce the most natural sound. Or, add bass or treble (or subtract) to adjust for the room or personal tastes.
The payoff is in the purity of high-fidelity amplified tone, unprecedented dynamic range, and extraordinary resistance to feedback and distortion. It enables all of the expressive subtleties of your playing to come through, just the way you intended.
